An art appraisal is not an authentication

More and more solely recognized authenticators are no longer giving certificates of authenticity ( COA) because when they emit a negative opinion about an authenticity they are sued, especially in the USA. Warhol, Johns, Pollock, Basquiat, etc foundations do not give a COA. Instead they will confirm if the artwork will be included in the catalogue raisonne they prepare for the artist. This to avoid expensive and long lawsuits, you can not sue a writer because he does not include an artwork in his book.
