Selling Mona Lisa to compensate France € 500 Billion loss?

Stéphane Distinguin, a French entrepreneur in high technologies, estimated that France should sell the Mona Lisa to offset part of the losses caused by the coronavirus on the economic level.

According to him, the sale of the famous painting by Leonardo da Vinci would bring in at least 50 billion euros. Still, on closer inspection, the pandemic has in fact weighed down the country's economy by 500 billion.

Suffice to say that Distinguin is beside its pumps since separating from the Mona Lisa would cause a cruel lack for France on a cultural level and a drop in attendance at the Louvre Museum, which attracts millions of tourists each year come to see this artwork. Therefore, it is not by parting with family jewels that the country will be able to revive itself economically, but by adopting adequate measures to compensate for a drop in GDP estimated at minus 8%.

Thinking of finding a way out, the entrepreneur suggested that the Mona Lisa be transformed into a Bitcoin-like cryptocurrency to allow it to be easily exchanged between several nations, the Louvre Museum retaining control of the work. In short, we no longer know what to invent. © Adrian Darmon
