David Hockney "Art Car"

If you pass through Paris before February 14, 2022, you can consider a magical walk through
Normandy. The Musée d'Orsay is exhibiting the fresco “ A year in Normandy ” by David Hockney, the famous British painter born in 1937 and trained at the Royal College of Art. Installed in the Pays d'Auge since 2019, David Hockney opens with this work inspired by Bayeux tapestries a new chapter in his artistic creation. His house, his garden, the countryside, nature become his reasons for reflection, simple and obvious, captured over the seasons. These bucolic scenes were painted on iPad, using a technique Hockney has been experimenting with for over ten years. With this work with naive accents, we are very far from David Hockney's only foray into the automotive world, an action that dates back to 1995. That year, BMW entrusted him with an 850 CSi in order to transform it into a Art Car . "I looked at the car for a long time and finally I thought that it would be relevant to imagine how we could see the interior from the outside" , sums up the painter to explain the composition he plastered on the body. . The result is a transparent vision of the interior and the mechanics in a play of colors unexpected at Hockney with a black and white which combines with a few yellow or burgundy spots. The 850 CSi from Hockney belongs to the second series of Art Cars produced for BMW. Unlike the works of Warhol, Calder or Koons and a few others, there is a long line of “normal” BMWs, which have no sporting pedigree, large series models intended for everyday use.
