Art expert, is buying fine art a good investment? Part 1.

If you want to know why investing in fine art is a secure investment today, there are many articles written by the most credible experts in fine art.

As an art expert, I encourage future investors not to put all their eggs in the same basket. I advise diversity in investments between different forms of art, modern, contemporary, old masters.

Everybody understands the need for diversity in investments.

What is behind the popularity of art investments?

To invest in fine art, and not wake up with a hangover, you need the help of an art expert.

A Fine art expert should be able to help somebody to build a fine art collection.

Does he have the experience of buying artworks?

Does he have the experience of auctions and the "after-sales" ?. The after-sales are very common all over the world

Does he have the experience necessary to discern the quality?

Does he have the experience to guess what will sell at higher prices?

There are many "Does He? " I can go on and go on for pages.

A good fine art expert needs a lot of experience, in multiple domains as we saw here above.

Buying fine art requires experience.

If you buy from a gallery exhibiting a painter named X: the expert needs to have the skills to negotiate the prices down.

The sale price of an artwork in a gallery usually reflects 50% of it for the gallery and 50 % of it for the artist.

If you buy art from an auction, you need to have the best relationship with the auction house to know the provenance, the hidden problems with the artwork. Art experts familiar to the auction house, or experts with a valid CV will receive this information immediately.

If you buy from a collector, the expert needs to know if the seller is aware of the real value of an item.

The expert needs to have the experience for discerning a chapel ( a chapel is a house or condo where some merchants displaying their merchandise difficult to sell in their gallery).

The art expert needs to know how to act with a seller who is not willing to let go of his item below his reserve price.
