Little genius or scam: the paintings of this 2-year-old child are torn off
Laurent Schwarz, a little boy of two and a half years old, has become famous on social networks thanks to the paintings he creates in his attic. Some buyers are willing to spend thousands of dollars.
He is already a little “painting genius” , according to the German media. Bild in the lead which made its headline at the end of May, while The Times describes him as a two-year-old “little Picasso” . This boy is Laurent Schwarz, says newspaper, Le Parisien. A little German who became a social media star thanks to… his paintings ! Her mother, who initiated the Instagram account, already followed by more than 43,000 people , still does not “realize what is happening to her” . And yet, his two and a half year old son has become a little phenomenon whose works are already being snapped up.
To better understand this meteoric rise, we have to go back to last November. On vacation in Italy, the young artist discovers a room where painting equipment is made available. He can afford to paint everything : the floors, the ceilings or the walls. A sort of revelation, because according to his mother, “he asked to go back” . Back home in Germany, he constantly asks his mother for paint and goes to take over the attic which will become… his workshop. She will then start filming it.

A painting sold for 150,000 euros?
Then, for no apparent reason, Lisa Schwarz will multiply the videos. His paintings have nothing to do with what young boys of his age can draw. Brush or roller in hand, little Laurent creates abstract works. The colors are bright and sometimes reveal animals, such as dragons or elephants, according to our colleagues. Since then, the success has been dazzling: 1,000 subscribers in one month, 10,000 in two. Internet users are raving about the paintings by the two-year-old boy.
His parents want to “protect” him , but his mother continues to film him, above all to “prove that it is really him who makes his paintings” . So, stroke of genius or scam? Some doubt the authenticity of the paintings, while others blame the parents for making money off his back. “This is so far from my intention. Laurent is just a child with a blank canvas in front of him ,” says the mother. Since then, the older ones have contacted the family. “Stumbling upon the paintings by chance , the head of international art fairs for the Gaudi gallery in Madrid offered to exhibit them at the ArtMuc fair based in Munich.
Faced with this success, the family created a website where… they sell the paintings. According to Le Parisien , of the 21 paintings already produced, 18 have already been sold for around 7,000 euros . Some buyers would even tear off their apron. Another painting even received a fantastic offer : almost 150,000 euros . If the family has not yet accepted, because they “love” the work, they concede that they could give in if the bids “rise”. The money collected will be paid into the young boy's account, which he will only be able to use when he turns 18. Enough to silence the critics?
